A: An alternative to traditional in-home foster care for people, in which they are housed in an intimate or home-like setting, in which a number of unrelated people live for varying periods of time with a single set of house parents, or with a rotating staff of trained caregivers. More specialized therapeutic or treatment group homes have specially-trained staff to assist people with emotional and behavioral difficulties. The make-up and staffing of the group home can be adapted to meet the unique needs of its residents.
Q: Why should I consider placement in a group home? A: Caring for a family member with a disability can be a very stressful and overwhelming at times. A group home can be a viable option for those who are prevented from performing activities of daily living and whose family members may not be able to provide daily care.
Q: What kinds of group homes are there? A: There are several different types and tiers of group homes. Lighthouse is licensed for both Child and Adult homes. There is also developmental and behavioral homes. Lighthouse is licensed for both of these as well. We do, however, screen prospective individuals to ensure that they are placed in the proper home wth trained employees to best meet their needs.
